LOCAL TO GLOBAL TRACE QUESTIONS AND TWISTS OF GENUS ONE CURVES by
نویسندگان
چکیده
— Let E be an elliptic curve defined over a number field F and K/F a quadratic extension. For a point P ∈ E(F) that is a local trace for every completion of K/F, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for P to lie in the image of the global trace map. These conditions can then be used to determine whether a quadratic twist of E, as a genus one curve, has rational points. In the case of quadratic twists of genus one modular curves X0(N) with squarefree N , the existence of rational points corresponds to the existence of Q-curves of degree N defined over K.

Elliptic factors in Jacobians of hyperelliptic curves with certain automorphism groups
We decompose the Jacobian variety of hyperelliptic curves up to genus 20, defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, with reduced automorphism group A4, S4, or A5. Among these curves is a genus 4 curve with Jacobian variety isogenous to E2 1 × E2 2 and a genus 5 curve with Jacobian variety isogenous to E5, for E and Ei elliptic curves. These types of results have some in...

Speaker: Jennifer Balakrishnan (Boston University) and Jan Tuitman (KU Leuven) Title: Computing Coleman integrals I and II Abstract: We’ll give a survey of explicit Coleman integration on curves via recent algorithms in point-counting and present some applications of Coleman integrals in arithmetic geometry. We’ll also describe some new computations on curves of genus 3. We’ll give a survey of ...
متن کاملElements of Class Groups and Shafarevich-tate Groups of Elliptic Curves
The problem of estimating the number of imaginary quadratic fields whose ideal class group has an element of order ` ≥ 2 is classical in number theory. Analogous questions for quadratic twists of elliptic curves have been the focus of recent interest. Whereas works of Stewart and Top [St-T], and of Gouvêa and Mazur [G-M] address the nontriviality of MordellWeil groups, less is known about the n...
متن کاملThe size of the sync basin.
We suggest a new line of research that we hope will appeal to the nonlinear dynamics community, especially the readers of this Focus Issue. Consider a network of identical oscillators. Suppose the synchronous state is locally stable but not globally stable; it competes with other attractors for the available phase space. How likely is the system to synchronize, starting from a random initial co...
متن کامل5 Naturalism and the A Priori Penelope Maddy
place this naturalism in what I hope to be an illuminating historical context, to trace the status of the a priori through its various twists and turns, and eventually to draw some tentative conclusions about the naturalistic status of the a priori. To do this, I first return to Kant. While it's surely no surprise that an examination of the a priori should start from Kant, perhaps his relevance...
